Inaccessible rooms at hotel - Lopa Rios ecolodge, Costa Rica
Recently spent 5 days at the above named lodge with my family (5 of us in all, including 2 teens). Wonderful place but several drawbacks - i.e. all 17 rooms are perched down a steep cliff walk (almost 300 steps to the bottom level), with office, restaurant, pool etc. at top level. Absolutely no means of communication between top level and rooms, so one can't call for a car to drive up occasionally. As an 80-year old, pretty fit woman, I could not possibly stay in my room (13, at lowest level) and fortunately was moved to a higher one, but the rest of family had to stay at bottom. This is taking ecotourism to an absurd level, as it means no one with any kind of age or handicap problem cannot visit. None of this was mentioned when we made bookings. Owners should at least put in walkie-talkies for guests, and ask about their mobility when making bookings.
